FACT 5: Abubakar Gimba OFR (10 March 1952 – 25 February 2015) was the sixth President of ANA. Gimba was an author, administrator and economist who was a former vice president of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) and was elected President of the association from 1997 to 2001; he is first person from Northern Nigeria to hold both positions.

FACT 4: In January 1966 Chinua Achebe attended a meeting of the newly founded Society of Nigerian Authors. On the 27th June, 1981, the Association of Nigerian Authors was founded by Prof. Chinua Achebe during a conference he convened. That maiden conference of Nigerian writers which held at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka was attended by notable personalities in Nigerian literature and two Kenyan writers, Ngugi Wa Thiongo and Gacheche Wauringi.

FACT 3: Camillus Uka is the current and twelfth President of ANA. He took over from Mallam Denja Abdulahi, the immediate past President of the Association. Till date ANA has gotten a total number of 12 Presidents and 13 General Secretaries.

NO 4: DR. MARIA AJIMA

Dr. Maria Ajima is a former President of Women Writers of Nigeria, and a former winner of the Association of Nigerian Writers/Spectrum Prose Prize. In a bid to promote literary criticism in Africa, she endowed ANA with the Maria Ajima Prize for Literary Criticism (Focus on African Literature).

NO 3: AKACHI ADIMORA-EZEIGBO

Akachi Adimora-Ezeigbo is a Nigerian author and educator, whose published work includes novels, poetry, short stories, books for children, essays and journalism. She is the winner of several awards in Nigeria, including the Nigeria Prize for Literature.

Biography

Adimora-Ezeigbo was born in Eastern Nigeria, gaining a BA and MA in English from the University of Lagos and a PhD from the University of Ibadan. She started teaching at the University of Lagos in 1981 and became professor of English in 1999. She has taught in this university, in the Department of English, since 1981.

She is the author of several books, including novels, collections of short stories and children's books. Her 2011 novel Roses and Bullets has been described as one of the most captivating and realistic of Biafran war literature. Among the awards she has received in Nigeria is the Nigeria Prize for Literature, of which she was joint winner in 2007 for her children's book My Cousin Sammy.

Personal life

She is married to Professor Chris Ezeigbo and they have three children.
